The Dead Humanity

By Preksha Kaliraman

Sometimes I wonder if the creation of humankind is nothing but a blunder,

Because it's just hatred that now thrives in us while the dead humanity is buried under.

We're so busy basking in pride for living with nothing but lies,

When all that we have achieved is nothing but bloodshed and heartbreaking cries.

We're so developed that thousands of babies dying fails to stir any emotions in us,

We're creating histories upon reading which future generations will be filled with disgust.

We have all turned a blind eye to every man dying to protect his family,

We have all turned a deaf ear to every woman being raped and crying in agony.

Our greatest leaders are those who are concerned with nothing but political gain,

We admire those who don't give a damn about the thousands of people dying in pain.

Humans are mere fools who are controlled by the imaginary lines on the globe,

We bask in joy standing on the mountain top failing to realize we're so close to falling down from the slope.

How do we consider ourselves alive when every emotion is dead inside,

All that we're capable of understanding are the religious and racial divides.

I feel ashamed in calling myself human,

Because we are merely soulless men and women.
