The Counterpart
By G Yashaswini Patel
Rosy was from a strict Catholic family. Her family was small but sweet. Her father was a tutor in an academy; her mother was a housewife; her sister was going to kindergarten; and her grandfather was a retired government employee. Rosy was studying in Grade 9. She was like any other girl. She used to be close with all her friends, whether they were girls or boys. In her society, people never took this in a good way, and her being a Christian made people think about her even worse. Someone or another used to complain about her to her mother.
Her mother used to take it seriously and scold her for those issues. It was a Monday morning, and Rosy went to school as usual. Her father had gone to the office, and her grandfather went to leave her sister at kindergarten. Everything was fine until 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon, when it was around 3:00 p.m. Rosy got the news that her mother had died due to an overdose of sleeping pills. This news spread throughout society, and people started saying that her mother died because of her. When her father heard this and discussed it with a few of his friends, they also spoke like Rosy had done everything when she hadn’t done anything. Due to this issue, her father started hating Rosy. Rosy started going into depression due to all the incidents happening around her. When she got to know all this, she got really angry and took it as a challenge to prove herself to the people living in her society and her father. She started focusing more on her studies and staying away from her friends. She went on to become the world’s best fashion designer and started her own company of fabric and women’s clothing designers. Her company was successful, and she helped a lot of girls who suffered due to family problems by giving them an education and a job in her company. When people got to know that whatever they thought and spoke about her was not true, they cared the least. That’s how people are, even if they don’t know what is true or not. They will speak about you and wouldn’t even care about you. So, don’t go by the words and talks that are said by people to affect your life; you know who you are and work hard for your goal. People will start saying good things about you automatically.
