The Cost of Standing

will I ever be able to breathe without having a burden, feeling like a burden?

the burden of life, of the future,

will I ever stop suffocating because of my responsibilities?

the responsibility of taking of myself, trying live without shattering into a million pieces

will I ever be able to roam freely without worrying about my life?

the worry of, surviving, not taken advantage of,

Will I live?

another year? will I live without being stripped of my innocence, early in life?

will I ever live like the person dreamed of myself being?

oh! to live worry free, knowing someone is there for you, at every step of your life

someone to hold you, when you fail to stand, when you finally break

someone to comfort you, lift you up, when you are drowning in the abyss of sadness

oh! to live happily, without constantly wondering, if you will live tomorrow

without constantly fighting the urge to end everything, at every second of the day

without constantly being called names

Tell me, how does it feel not to fight your own mind, every minute of the day?

how does it feel not having your dreams and hopes shattered, everyday

how does it feel having someone for you?

how does it feel not being the strongest one, the one everyone leans on,

when life gets tough for them, when they want comfort and advice,

how does it feel living the life I dream of?

tell me!

will I ever be able to feel any of these?

will I live....................

A raw, aching poem capturing mental exhaustion, loneliness, and the relentless burden of simply surviving.
