The Cost of Hope

Is hope just a form of suffering?

A way to keep us there,

but not exactly there?

Oh… is this really fair?

Always bringing us back to that which haunts:

“what if?”

What if this… what if that…

Surely this is that which I cannot combat.

We never hope for the worst,

but we spend more time dwelling on it than hoping for good.

By those who despair,

this surely cannot be understood.

As much as you say… it cannot fully be lost.

You can stay in anguish… but at what cost?

For the question will always persist:

Can hope and despair coexist?
