The Colour Red

By Kristy Saikia

(The poem is about the contrasting symbolism of red colour. As much it is a colour of love, care and affection, it also represents hate and pain in the same intensity. It is oscillating.)

RED.

COLOR OF LOVE?

COLOR OF CRUELTY?

Love.

Eyes meet eyes.

smile coincide with

another smile.

An abyss of

unnamed and,

untamed emotions

engulfs us.

And time is a silent spectator.

it waits for our ‘love’ to rot.

                                             Cruelty.

                                             Eyes look away from eyes.

                                             Unspoken words separate

                                             two worlds by thousand miles.

Red is sacred.

It is diabolic too.

The ‘colour of love’ changes to

‘colour of cruelty’.

We all are victims and culprits

of this colour red.

Whom do we punish?

Whom do we not?
