The Choice

By Anuvindan T

He felt the world closing in, hope fading above

His beliefs have proven falsely, he was naught but just naïve

The words full of pleadings fell on deaf ears

The trust shattered like glass, one born of elapsed years

Fuelled by the grief and the rage the wheels turned

It was stopped by a choice, resolute, unafraid

While he was aware it’s clicking somewhere uncouth

Why care for the world if this is all that it’s worth

The decision was the ladder that pulled him out of the swamp

One made by himself, it made him sure he’s not just a lamp

He walked down that pavement he himself built

And blocked out the noice, for the best or the worst

And today he was reminded his actions may undo the worth of his name

The derisive laughter sounded inside, then they like what I did, not who I am

He cemented his roots and cleared his sights to set off

Through the road that he chose, lonely, but free
