The Burglar

By Dr.Monis Rizwan

Sitting on the roof ,wind in my hair

Looking at the birds fly

Peace, after a long time

Dare me to crack a smile

Close my eyes and take it all in

Then again, right on cue

The burglar appears, smile fades, wind suffocating

The burglar : the faceless, the nameless, the fear

This burglar has chased me for years

Like a shadow to my peace, the impending fear

Just as my world seems to settle, the burglar comes up with a stone to throw

So I wait, peace shattered ,serious face on?

No that’s just for me to see

Plaster a smile that I know is fake

And wait, prepared to fight the burglar again
