The Broken Wing

By Sonal Rashid

I woke up when the sun kissed me. Eyes half closed I ran towards the window to look outside. Happiness struck me as it was a sunny day. Clapping and dancing I got ready swiftly and waited eagerly for my breakfast. The marmalade was so tasty but the outside world was much more tastier, so I ran as fast as I could and started to fly. The sky was bright and it made me glide on her until my lips chapped due to thirst. I floated down slowly to drink water and that’s when I saw him. He was lying in his bed and crying, I stepped forward and peeped closely through the window, he too saw me and we both smiled at each other.

Soon these visits became a routine and the smiles turned into talks. Time turned us into inseparable and one day he cut my wings. I cried and cried, he consoled me saying that he wanted us to be together forever. We stayed happily but the sight of sunny days through my golden cage made my heart heavy, I gulped the pain with a sigh. Days turned into months and months into years and one fine day Tommy left. He hopped in the car with the same smile on his face. I waited until I was forgotten and left when I was no longer needed.
