The Beginning

By Decorian Morgan

She looks at him afraid

She asks, “are you ready”

Ready for what

Ready to be a father

A father to a child

A father at eighteen

Seventeen not even an adult

Seventeen with a responsibility

Responsibility to someone else

Responsibility to provide

Provide for his child

Provide for her

Her mind is numb

Her face is blank

Blank face

Blank stare

Stare at the floor

Stare at the walls

Walls around him

Walls between them

Them means a family

Them means a baby

A baby on the way

A baby has needs

Needs he can't meet

Needs space

Space away from her

Space away from it

It that grows

It is in her

Her eyes water

Her heart breaks

Breaks like the condom

Breaks like his promises

Promises of forever

Promises of love

Love for himself

Love equals lust

Lust equals love

Lust is what he had

Had an idea

Had a plan

Plan to leave

Plan to lose

Lose the baby

Lose- lose

 Lose him

Lose her baby

Her baby

Him
