The Agony of The Mahadev

By GR Madhukar

I am the fire, I am the storm,

yet now I walk, cold, weak and torn,

the cosmos trembles at my breath,

yet here I stand, consumed by death.

O Sati, light that graced my night,

why did you fade, leave me in blight?

the stars still shine, the rivers flow,

but all is dark where love won’t go.

Upon my shoulder rests your frame,

yet gone you are, just dust, just name,

this form I hold is not your soul,

but how can I let go, be whole?

My tears have carved the earth in pain,

they sprout as beads in sorrow’s reign,

the Rudraksh grows from what I weep,

a prayer, a grief, too vast, too deep.

Let gods and demons bow and break,

let time itself dissolve and quake,

for without you, what worth is might?

what use is rage without your light?

Here i still walk, through storm and snow,

through lifeless winds that dare not blow,

till fate may grant what death denied,

till you return, stand by my side.
