Thawing Season (Spring’s Renewal)
By Reba Kalita
The ennuied frozen heart,
The bland frozen rivers,
The naked ugly branches,
The relentless snowed salt stains-
All lapped by milky petals
of this spring’s first bloom:
the roses.
Persephone’s first return,
Floralia’s first feast-
A bud’s first achievement,
Dusting away,
all stale grey pixies-
painting the world’s decay.
The corolla covered trails,
The warm glistening rivers,
The
contently
dancing
windchimes-
supported by
swaying
branches-
That no longer imitate disrobed poles;
Thaw my heartstrings into-
spindles of whimsical choruses.
The warm choruses-
That submit to none,
The heaving myocardium-
That nevermore awaits forlorn innovation;
Rather,
engulfs in sun-dyed roses
just by
Poseidon's wavelets.
Fate’s unsettled.
But,
the blooming florets-
protruding from my epidermis,
incessantly repent
my
indefensible winters.
