Swinging In Solitude
By Snigdha Uppala
It was a starry night on the shore of a stream,
In the moonlight, the waves seemed to gleam.
Stood on the bank was a grand old tree,
The swing on the branches called to me.
Sitting on the swing, I saw time move along.
My mind kept going back to the things that went wrong.
Swinging there in solitude, I tried to think of happiness.
The memories rewind and bring to front, all the fondness.
Went back to that tree every night that week,
Living had felt hard, and the future bleak.
Swinging every evening, my mind felt light.
On the last day, the future now felt bright.
I left all my pain and misery, behind on that trip,
Let go of all my inhibition, and sent it far away on a ship.
Walking on the shore, I felt my feet relax against the sand.
I started to love myself, thanks to this fresh air and river land.
As I move to the next chapter and a new city,
I take some time for myself from planning the move’s nitty-gritty.
I sit at the window seat and look at the city sky,
I think of all the endless possibilities, as time passes by.
Here I am, settling into this new city and home.
The anxiety in my heart starts to make everything look gloom.
I try to do things that make me happy, filling warmth in my heart’s core.
My mind takes me back to the swing on the tree, and the stream shore.
