Sunset Minaret

The call can be heard just

after the cattle egrets

fly left to right

across the skyline,

as the sun dips low

to meet the water.

Heat of the day starts

to ease. Hijabi walkers and desert

dogs brave the sand

as it shifts from fire to embers.

The crescent atop

the dome now appears

in silhouette.

The call continues as

the country comes alight,

breathing more deeply, now

the air no longer scorches.

Constellations and filled

evenings come into being,

with the sunset minarets.
