Sun the thief

Original Submission by Caitlynn van lingen

Sun the thief i

Run to the sea and claim the sand before he lays his hand upon the rough shingles

His tendrils embrace the curvature of the world

He stares in the sea

Admiring his blinding glory

Man of few, run to the edge

Cup the sand between your fingers

Quickly before he claims his prize

Cup the sand like wine in baskets

Drink it to be sober

Return to your plastic house

Speak to the sons of Icarus

Their father knows him well

His wings were stolen

And so your sand

Sun the thief ii

I peak my head slowly over the edge

My arms fairly ready to stretch

I see a man running frantically

His stare spears my sight

He cups his hands and stands

And falls to his knees

His body moving up and down, ticks time like an hour glass

And I edge closer to watch his efforts

I follow his somber walk back to a house

Where he swears my name and speaks of Icarus

My old friend with the plastic wings

Fell far away from me and into the sea

And now his sons tell stories of him

And of me

How I melted his wings and drowned him

Do they not see the blame is not me

The blame was his wings and fragility
