Sun and Moon

By Rishika Jain

Sitting on the grass, looking up at the sky

He said something she never expected.

“Aren’t we like the sun and the moon,

Shining and dwelling with each other.”

She looked at him, his glow radiating in her eyes.

“Beautiful but never seen together.

Shining but full of flaws and brokenness.”

She said, fidgeting with her hands.

He took her hands in his, smiling at her confusion.

“Like the sun and moon, we exist in this universe,

Not simultaneous but one after another

Shining through their broken and flawed pieces.”

“Giving space to co-exist, letting them shine.

If this isn’t love, then what is?”
