Strange Echoes

I’m out of words to tell you

Quite ironic for me, but

Everything about this is true.

I could keep the whole world shut

Oblivious to my desire

If only wishes could haunt

Beyond a frame of resistance

My life wouldn’t then be so vaunt

So vacant, so deliriously doubtful

Time moves on, as does the world

We live in words unsaid

And caresses unfulfilled

A vagrant dream I hold on to

Filled with glorious prospects

But what should bring me back, but you

Those moments spent with you

We’re kindred spirits, you and I

You don’t remember, and I wish not to

Don’t get so attached, you say.

How do I help it that I’m this way?

I cannot measure the burden of my feelings

Nor give you away like you meant nothing

How do I feel all that I feel

Without ever letting you know?

Knowing you don’t want it, knowing it’s in vain?

I don’t offer the world too much

Except wallow in its misery and pain

But if I could write just a touch of you,

A whisper, a loving memory

A little bit of what you exude

The world can count itself lucky

Though I dare say there can never truly

Be words to capture your spirit

Or feelings so strange for that matter

Dismiss me like every stranger in your past

I would want nothing more

Then if you should remember, at long last

Know that I’ve held every kiss close

Afraid I’d forget what it felt like someday

Hoping to have one memory of us, my way.
