Story of Us

Updated: Jul 5, 2025

By Doyel Bhattacharjee

This house is haunted

It doesn't feel like home

All the screams

Every shout

All the fights

Every night

They were deafening

And so was the silence

Of that one night

This house is haunted

By the ghost of us

The feel of your touch

The tremble in your breath

Your form was a blur

Or perhaps it were my eyes instead

It doesn't feel like home

The lights too bright

Our room too dark

And I was Alone

All the screams,

Every shout

All your words

And every move

Stamped on me,

My very soul

The song of us

Forevermore

All the fights,

Every night

All our red roses turned white

Our home, ever so bright

Everything there was

Everything there wasn't

Only leaves me with questions

The dahlias were carnations

The marble was glass

And I, I lost sight of us

They were deafening

Your silence

Your words

My thoughts,

The way we converse

It was treacherous

My tone

It was painful,

All alone..
