Stars of Melancholy
By Myra Gupta
glittering stars collide,
like bursts of shimmer liberating into ashes,
loving hearts flooded with pride,
until the sentences end in slashes.
the melancholy cloud hovers over the mind,
patters of truth lingering like tears in the eyes,
the world of lies makes one blind,
even the wisest stars leave with unsaid goodbyes.
the starry spaces ache to fill, an alchemy of desire,
skies and eyes and sunlight and blood,
all together to make one even wryer.
oh, these silver beads of gleam, there waiting to make one whole,
the abyss melts to nothing,
when the moon is one, and the stars are the soul.
these stars of melancholy, burn until they die,
the brightest stars burn first,
there is a low that ceases and it ends at the high.
