Starlight of The Seven Seas

By Diya V. Surjuse

Captain Me emerged on his old woody deck,

The sea had calmed, a deep blue fleck

Shining high was the bright and bold sun,

But of chirping birds there was no one

Me felt a little lonely, in the vast expanse of sea

Though he had his Lady Nightlife and his beloved plant of pea

Nightlife skimmed over the rhythmic waves,

Away and away from that band of knaves

The sun had now travelled overhead,

And his pea plant looked as if almost dead

Scurrying inside, he brought it under shade,

Where from the corner of his eyes he thought he saw a maid

He blinked once and he blinked twice,

As if he was entranced in a vice

There in front was the mystic Island of Corsage,

Rumoured as it was to be nothing but a mirage

He steered Nightlife in the direction of that mystery,

Overlooking the bouldered path, intending to make history

The waves seemed now very urgent and rapid,

A reflection of Me's thoughts, very chaotic and trepid

Me saw the maid again, now lounging upon those boulders,

Submerged in water till it reached her shoulders

Hair a shade of blue, darker than the night,

Skin bedecked in pearls, illuminating ethereal light

A sight to behold, majestic was her form,

And in the interlocking of gazes, Me overlooked the oncoming storm

She smiled a gentle smile, beckoning him to follow,

Leading towards a destination, a raw endless hollow

The sun was setting now in the horizon of far west,

With shades of crimson orange was the scene at its best,

Rocks around and water getting deeper,

Nightlife rolled but her path became steeper

Captured in the enchantment, Me did not notice

Dreaming as he was of a huge pile of otis

No sign of the island, the sea was crystal clear,

Me shuddered a little when a whisper reached his ear,

"Come with us to the land of water fairies,

"To a world full of magic and hoard of golden berries,

"Only term we offer is to leave your body here,

"We may be beings of the other side, but have no fear."

The hypnosis was strong, Me reached over the deck

And jumped into the water till it reached over his neck

Gasping for air, he felt the water rush in

But it was too late now, the maid had committed her sin

The scene changed dramatically, like stars had descended down

Waves lapped at Nightlife like frills of her gown

The ship started sinking as the sea maiden watched,

Another rock emerged on that very spot

Dawn broke as Corsage surfaced again,

With the swish of her tail, the maiden summoned rain

Diving deep, she smiled at the cold water's sensation,

Glancing around the stone graves, admiring her creation

Heading to the floral land, gliding through with ease,

Bracing her pearly skin, she dissolved in the breeze

And like the kohl stuck bumblebees, she became Starlight of the Seven Seas
