Staring At My Old Street

Still today when I look at that street

and  my eyes wander all around it

somehow my old mates I see so faraway

playing together in a now lost sunny day

to hide and seek and a ball to strike

sharing in three the same battered bike

Side by side under the street lamps light

it was there we spent our night

smiling  just  ‘cause we were boys

having  fun with few broken toys

a cheap ball for a crazy football

riding a moped owned by us all

Everyone in that neighbourhood

gave his help and lots of  firewood

Sparkling wine and sparks so bright

music and dancing in the Holy Night

flames that in my eyes still glow

I see us playing in the falling snow

This wooden world inside my heart

only death would tear us apart

Behold, now they come shouting: “Hey

Chris come on, come down! Let’s play!”

I close my eyes and when they’re near

I’m a child again, “Hey friends, I’m here!”
