Starfly And The Doctor Of rats

By Kadeeja Ruwaidah

Krurcun Onqoix, an alien from planet Zedastr, had been taking his spaceship on a run around the milky way. Everything had been going smoothly until the spaceship neared a black hole, which Krurcun had missed to spot. It sucked his ship and they so-called into a pitch-black never-ending vortex. Krurcun couldn't control his ship, and it spun out of control. In the process, the purple-colored alien banged his head against the motherboard of the ship and blacked out.

The night sky was dark and seemed to stretch endlessly. Stars shone as if they were diamonds encrusted on a black satin cloth. That was the sight that Krurcun saw when his eyelids fluttered open finally. It took him a moment to remember what had happened. He shot up to attention and checked his ship. It was totally busted. The engine probably had to be replaced. He checked the GPS system, and it was busted too. So in short, he had no clue where he had landed.

The purple alien left his ship, only to see a large green field. He had never seen anything like that. The only planet that had greenery, in his memory, was Earth. So he assumed this was Earth. That was how Krurcun reached Earth.

He didn't know the first thing about the Human Beings, but he had heard stories about them. His previous visits to Earth had always been short and he had never mingled with the Earthlings. He was not like the beings that inhabited this planet. He was much stronger and smarter and had a few abilities of his own up his sleeve. But his first priority was to hide his ship.

He checked to see whether his ability would work on earth, and they did. A black gateway opened up when he stretched out his palm. Exactly what he wanted.

Krurcun had the ability to create portals, opening doorways in reality to any location he could clearly visualize. But it only applied to places within a certain limit, and in his case, he could only open doorways to any place inside a planet, meaning he couldn't open doorways across space to his own planet from earth. That was impossible. For him at least.

Krurcun's knowledge of Earth was extended to the places he visited, and coincidentally, he knew of an isolated island. No humans knew about it. So he supposed that he could work on repairing his ship there, without being discovered. His base of operations.

Arriving at the island, he saw that there had been many geographical changes. There were now mounds of mud hills all across the islands. He wasn't sure how that happened, but he held both of his hands, palm up, on his side as miniature stars appeared, the tiny superheated sun's that he could manipulate, and hurl as projectiles. He hurled them at the mud hills, making them disintegrate. But he left a few intact, to hide his base from the outer world.

Little did Krurcun know that his little black hole journey had affected the balance of planes and triggered another cosmic reaction. Somewhere in the middle of a deserted alley, there was a blinding lightning. It struck one of the trash cans, which held an age old and torn comic book.

A villain from a forgotten story came to life in reality. His eyes gleamed red with a sinister smile curving his lips. Hundreds of little squeaks sounded in the alley, and scurrying of tiny paws could be heard. Out of nowhere, hundreds of rats surrounded the guy in black, and all of them together melted into the shadows.

Krurcun hid his ship and retrieved every salvageable thing from the wreck and set up a small base from where he could work in peace to repair his ship. Now, he needed to find spare parts and other things he required. He pulled up a dimensional gateway again and landed in a town he had visited once, which was full of hardware stores. It was already way past morning now. The purple alien had already camouflaged his appearance to look like a human, like he had done in his previous visits. He also assumed a human name: Stevie Crawn.

The town was deadly quiet. Krurcun walked the expanse of the town and saw all the electrical appliances glitching. The wires seemed half chewn. He found one television working, a news channel flashing on it, reporting the surge of rats in nearby towns and a man standing in the middle of them all. The man seemed to be shouting that he was going to take over the world with his babies, aka his rats.

Krurcun got a bad feeling, and usually his gut instincts were always true. He felt as if his mishap might perhaps be indirectly involved in the birth of this maniac. The alien's six sense was superior to all and any living thing on Earth.

He opened another gateway immediately, recognizing the place from the television. Krurcun felt the responsibility to find the truth and fix it. He knew traveling through black holes held cosmic consequences and hence why, generally, everyone avoided black holes. So it was up to him to fix the situation, before he could return back to his home.

So he donned an alter persona and rushed to the place where the man clad in black, controlling the rats, currently was. His alien skin and clothes were unusual enough to look like a dorky superhero costume. The humans, who've never discovered the Alien races, will fail to think otherwise of the appearance.

This started the first fight to protect humanity. The doctor of rats- yes a very lame and long name- became Krurcun's arch-nemesis.

Krurcun assumed a human alter ego. Even while defending Earth against a wannabe dictator and his rats, he still had the task to fix his ship as well. And for that he needed the small bits of paper that humans called money, to buy the damaged parts of his ship.

He took on a job as a waiter at a cafe. He also brought that small gadget that humans depended on. A smartphone. It kept him updated on the appearance of the Doctor of rats and was pretty useful.

Krurcun had to keep up with his life, living as a human and earning his wages while also finding the right parts and fixing his ship so he could return home. But before that, he had to deal with The Doctor of Rats, and find a way to return him to the comic book and save humanity. Donning the identity of a superhero and naming himself StarFly, Krurcun was ready to save Earth. It was a race against time.
