Space Travel In A Time Machine !
By Moumita Kundu
When I opened my eyes, I was surprised to find that the planet I had landed on was so similar to my planet. The place looked very pristine; inhabitants looked pretty similar to us but where clad differently. They spoke a language I could hardly follow and their patterns of behaviour were distinctly different. The fact which caught my attention was that ‘women’ wore clothes that complemented their slim waists and full breasts, which were kept exposed ! The ‘men’ were wearing only loin clothes. Diverting my attention from the inhabitants , I focused on the well architectured clay houses which had walls beautifully decorated with sophisticated artwork . The massive splendour of the building complexes left me awestruck . The elaborate four storeyed palaces with intricate decorations stood in stark contrast with the scenic backdrop that the crystal blue sky and the lavish mountains created. Amidst this surreal setting and sensuous nature ,just as I was beginning to get enchanted , a sudden commotion seemed to be brimming. People began running helter and skelter. I recognised something was wrong. And then did I behold a glimpse of the most ghastly figure I have ever seen : part man and part bull chasing people with full might.
I was petrified but somehow gathered up strength to run back to the vehicle which had brought me here. I buckled myself up and wrenched the lever with all my might. I was too frightened to take note of anything else. When my vehicle landed and the door opened, I saw the operator standing with an apologetic face. He said, "Sorry Ma’m, instead of the Space shuttle I had mistakenly put you in a Time Machine. I ... " ; I couldn't bother to listen anymore. The realisation that I have just come back from a visit to Crete in the Minoan era overwhelmed me to go numb for some time. I had just managed to save myself from the Minotaur!! "Never was a more fruitful mistake made" I thought aloud. But I bet, Earth 5000 years back was a different planet indeed and I'm kind of sure, will be another different kind, 5000 years hence.
