Something You Never Really Know

By Bandana Terangpi

There’s a feeling - I swear

A feeling blured like fog, cling onto my chest.

It’s real but I never knew it lived.

I miss the time I’ve never lived,

Like an ache that whispers but never speaks,

And I ache for the whisper I can’t name

A memory I never made, yet mourn.

It’s my feeling but I can’t name it.

It’s a feeling I know but don’t understand.

Like loving a face that doesn’t have a name,

A face that isn’t a person, a person that’s not real.

And maybe it’s the emptiness of missing,

Of yearning for what’s never been born.
