Sit with me

Inadequate. Uncertain.

Should I do more? Be more?

Jealousy said hi.

I said, please leave.

Blueberry cheesecake.

Fried onion rings.

Gluttony said hi.

I said, not again.

I know more. I do more.

I am. Therefore, I shine.

Pride said hi.

I hesitated.

Typing furiously. Walking speedily.

Rushing to the store.

Impatience said hi.

I said, not now.

Breath shallow. Heart tight.

What if? What if not?

Anxiety said hi.

I said, come sit. But quietly.

Sunlight on skin.

Laughter spilling over.

Joy said hi.

I said, stay a little longer.

Eyes on the horizon.

Hands reaching out.

Longing said hi.

I said, I know. Me too.

Palms open. Voice soft.

A quiet gaze held warm.

Tenderness said hi.

I said, I’ve missed you.

An empty chair. A fading song.

The scent of what once was.

Grief said hi.

I said, I remember.
