Sinister Mob

By Sarah Colleen (s.c.)

A deafening silence screeches across the deadly city,

as I wander aimlessly forward.

The ultimate demise rained upon these glass castles,

gruesome and hellish in nature.

All lives lost but mine,

without a whisper, without a trace.

The Queen of Nature herself now reclaims all in her path,

swallowing the metropolis whole.

Excruciating exhaustion, perpetual starvation,

I dare not make a sound.

Vile creatures of otherworldly malice

stalk this once developed land,

with their smudged eyes and decaying flesh.

I hear the pattering of their rotted feet behind me,

gaining traction with their long-awaited meal in their sights.

My pace quickens, my breath sharpens,

they can sense my location.

The beasts reek of decomposition and hell-fire sulfur,

penetrating my senses like slap to the skin.

Desperation courses through my frail being,

as I advance up aboard a platform.

Enclosed, cornered, trapped,

the flesh-eating brutes wail and claw at my sanctuary.

No hope for salvation, no chance of raw bravery,

I turn my throbbing back to the frenzied horde,

accepting my defeat.

Floating backwards into the sea of deterioration,

a deafening silence screeches across the deadly city once more.
