Simple fare

I look outside my window and I

catch a glimpse of tiny nimble anklets,

frantic, fleeing from the me of today.

I look outside my window and I

see my fires glowing dimmer,

The dying embers of a fierce warrior.

I look outside my window and I

see the grim sephulchral shadows,

looming darker with every threatening step,

Beckoning to me as a kindred soul,

with open tentacles all ready to drench

me in their wretched melancholy embrace.

I creep forward, at first, just a new colt,

Then, slowly galloping forward to meet the greys…

Free now, Leaving my yellows, my reds, my soul behind.

Happy to spew this venom inside out,

adding more and more from this empty hole,

relishing this cold, this icy nothingness.

I look outside the window and see

the onyx sky stretching out and beguiling me.

Come, it says, savour this black ambrosia, this simple fare.

And I go.
