Silver Coloured Locket

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

By Vanya Kaul

I had a silver-coloured locket

with your photo in it

I swore to wear it forever

not realizing it was all temporary

Now the photo in your locket

has changed, but mine

still persists regardless of

the torn edges

I can’t get myself to throw it away

despite the rust,

maybe it’s because of

the heart shape, or because

it’s the only you, I have left with me.

Reminded me of a line from an old song. One that summarises the difference between emotions and relations. Your poem highlights the same. The end of a relation does not mark the end of an emotion. Such profound insight! Well done!

The song is ,"mai har ek pal ka shayar hoon". The line, " Rishtoan ka roop badalta hai, buniyadein khatam nahi hoti. Khwaboan ki aur umangoan ki miyadein khatam nahi hoti."
