The thundering of hoofbeats,

The explosion of bombs,

Ringing of ears,

Clash of iron on steel,

Signs of battle.

The pounding of fists,

Bruises decorating skin,

The end of a life,

The loss of a love,

Signs of battle.

Hatred filled glares,

Scars littering the mind,

Sleepless nights,

Silent tears,

Signs of battle.

Hunger pangs,

Sunken cheekbones,

Protruding ribs,

Malnourished children,

Signs of battle.

Masks covering faces,

Hazmat suits as armour,

Painful sacrifices made,

Uncertainty reigned,

Signs of battle.

Life is a battle arena,

We rise and we fall and we hurt,

But we keep moving forward,

Facing our battles head-on
