Shatter

By Devalacheruvu Ridhima

Seismic shocks that rack through my very being,

Richter scale shattered, heartbeat off the charts,

At the simple sound of your melodious laughter,

The ground below me begins to shatter.

Magma seeps underneath my flushed cheeks,

An eruption of lava and emotion bubbling beneath,

At the mere brush of your fingertips against mine,

The mouth of the volcano starts to boil over.

A tempestuous storm brews in my heart,

The maelstrom of winds, threatening to tear me apart,

At the slightest praise you offer me,

The roof of the heart is ripped right off.

The water rises to the height of mountains barrelling towards me,

A tsunami of infatuation to engulf my mind,

At you softly calling my name, in a way I’ve never heard before,

The wave comes crashing down, drowning me out.

Raging fire consumes every bit of the forest floor,

The sparks of passion and love too bright to control,

As you hold my hands in yours and lean forward,

The flame flutters out of control, threatening to burn everything.
