Selflessness or Selflessness

There once was this girl who thought that

she could help the entire world. 

She gave others pieces of herself to make them feel whole, she never knew that 

takers had no self control. 

So she gave and gave while they took and took, but little did she know that not everyone is as nice as they look. 

She was in glee as she got called 'selfless', she had no clue about the upcoming mess. 

She eventually lost herself to all the people she thought needed help. 

I guess that nobody ever told her that this world was a dark place, now she became a mere pawn in the game she used to ace. 

She thinks about this often, it's a thought 

which she can't wash; was it ever really selflessness or was it self-sabotoge?
