School time diaries

Those days, When the lights of dawn were greeted by us With a tight loud yawn In the next hour all ready for school Waiting for the bus

Screw the fetish house fights burn the tension in your head Within the next period and your friends’ dank puns Your laughter stops when your dead

Those lunch breaks When classes turned into restaurants, lunchboxes shifted from one corner to another Speaking of all our dumb acts and wants.

That boring maths class; With the teacher stuck with her problem confusing lots And there come us, laughing on the first bench Happiness shone on our faces, even with incomplete notes.

Those ‘once in a while’ class bunks, pissing the ocean in the toilet or working on the ground’s soil that would always bake Maybe scolded or ragged by the teachers But ‘Liberty in our hands’ we would always take.

One night before the exam Revisions on WhatsApp or google meet; Chits and signs that were noticed unseen From one to the other exam hall seat.

Those memories and those days I sit and remember when we’ve already parted ways At the end, all that’s left is a thank you to say For making my life as colourful as the rainbow over a field of maize.
