Ruler of the Sky

By Carol Ann Wells

With wings spread wide in seamless flight,

dark silhouette against blue sky,

cruising currents of the wind,

the eagle gracefully glides by.

Strong feathers smoothly stream-lined, he’s

impervious to gravity.

Grounded, watching with such rapture,

a yearning sparks inside of me.

Oh, to be, just for a moment,

celestial creature soaring high,

awe-inspiring and majestic,

the royal ruler of the sky.
