Romantic Farewell

By Reba Kalita

Warm waves whooshing against the rocks,

treading

                  footsteps

   printing

                    itself

    in the

                     sand

Her enamored smile,

 eclipsing the sunset.

Her playful water splashes-

hitting me like cupid's flechettes.

Running

                                                            through

                                             tulip

                       meadows.

  Laughters

heave the sound of our hearts-

  the sound of our footsteps,

  the sound of our minds.

  Rendezvousing under a tree,

laying my head on her lap.

  Her voice-

a blissful music to my ears.

Sweltering in heat for ice creams,

Sneaking out for dates,

Running on the london bridge at midnight,

Dancing in the snow under a lamp post.

Reliving our first date-

our first memories.

But now,

                    I

                 hold

                  her

                 hand

                      Her eyes devoid of life;

                      Her beautiful existence-

                       supported by a mere

                                  metalbox.

                           Her weak smiles,

                          Her lingering gazes,

                           Tuning my heart-

                     melting it into her daisies.

But now,

I stand by her grave,

bringing her red carnations,

singing her songs,

lulling our beautiful memories-

spending candle-lit dinners on our anniversaries;

All on the grass beside her grave.

Sacrificing my tears-

Smiling for her sake;

The sun only shines brighter,

The butterflies only glide higher,

And my love,

only expands further.

If only we had more time-

To converse.

To explore.

To devote.

Regardless,

                                                                       My love is always you.
