Road to Freedom

By Jiya

They came as traders ,

to become the rulers,

of our beloved country ,

with the support from their military.

Part by part ,

they broke us apart ,

slow and steady we fell into their trap ,

and all those glorious kingdoms came into a wrap.

They made us play ,

to all their plans that lay ,

wars we fought ,

through flood and drought.

Mahatma Gandhi,  Chandra Shekhar Aazad ,

all of them laid us a path ,

to fight against them under whom we were in cages ,

and to break their empire that lasted for ages .

Then came the Jallianwala Bagh , Amritsar tragedy,

while people wondered when would have been the end of that atrocity,

where the general ordered open fire,

leaving thousands dead without no one left for their funeral pyre .

The creation of Home Rule Movement,

founded by Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Annie Besant ,

though the Britishers filed a case against both ,

this movement had no stop in its growth.

Gandhiji's policies of Non-violence and Truth,

made all realize that it was their root,

22 policemen,  10000 of people were put to death ,

these incidents still choke my breath.

Finally , on August 15 , 1947 ,

India got independence and saluted to those who sacrificed their life to change it into heaven,

even though the Britishers plundered from us silver and gold ,

we still remain the ‘ Gems of the World ‘ .
