Remnants of a smile

The first echo of dawn

Climbing to peer

At the hushed life

Under Hypnos’s spell

Beams which lighten

The darkest crevices

Light shining upon

A distant memory

Leaves dipped in gold

Released from their hold

A treasure once held

Slipping through fingertips

Whilst the willow sighs

Branches almost bare

An echo of laughter

Silenced by the flow of time

The light tap of the sprig

Causing subtle ripples

Which awaken

The dozing river

The caress of fern

Like that of a hand

A loving warmth

Still remembered

Murmurs among the Ivy

Smiles among the Lilac

Ignorant of the chill

Seeping into form

Flickering sparks

Behind the branches

Tendrils of dark

Beneath the oak

The ephemeral day

Waves goodbye

The fleeting presence

Out of reach

Reluctant yet accepting

Of that fragile promise

A heart makes way to

The first trace of dusk
