Remains of a Love

By Kalpana Kumari

I breathe in the smoke,

fueling the fire.

Just like the ache in my heart,

calling out your name louder.

Smoke and tears escape,

just like your memory.

With me for a moment,

then fading into silence.

Why could it not be?

My heart asks like the dying pyre.

Leaving gray ash of shattered hopes,

and the remains of a love

that burned ever wilder.
