Red Moon

Have you ever been in love with the moon?

I have watched her alone

On one of my late night strolls

It was just her and me

Only the stars in between

I spoke to her

She spoke back to me

As I slowly grew drink in her beauty

Her fair complexion at a stark contrast

With the dark blue sky that she reigned

She and me, I thought we were meant to be

I yearned for night when day came

And dreaded the rise of dawn

Every night I watched her

I smiled, she smiled back

I knew she could not be mine alone

The clouds, they loved her too

But one morning, a bird chirped along

“The sun and the moon, they shall be married,

The sun and the moon, the sun and the moon”

I burnt in a way the sun must never have

When I heard her name with another’s

I never really did stand a chance with the sun

Tall dark and handsome

I am just one ill-starred lover

Another poet in love

I bled quietly that day

My blood mixing with others that

tinge her pink once a year

Red moon, they call it

The day the hearts of thousands

Spilled shattered rubies for the moon.

I couldn’t give her the light that the sun does

I should have known

But I didn’t think of me when I was with her

I saw her smile and thought

That meant she loved me

But alas, I was a fool
