Red Bow On The Rocks

By Hector Lopez Jaime

next to chainlink fences

among biracial couples

& men who’d lose weight

by spending less time on

rented electric scooters

black rocks fill the gaps

left between concrete &

asphalt, trees & stop lights

scattered among them today

is a mix of trash & treasures

odd cigarette butts

which feel lackluster

a tiny red bow that

wouldn’t be out of place

on a tiny dog’s head

on a little girl’s hair

two plastic forks

one black, one white

three toothbrushes

all looking brand new

one liquor bottle that

used to have vodka

one light beer bottle

that also got drained

when i get my seat

on the lightrail

the heat from the

last person’s ass

lingers

with any luck

my memories

will radiate for

just as long

& only be half

as repulsive
