Reality Isn't Always A Mirror

I realized a lot late that I wasn’t in love with you

I was rather in love with one version of you

The fleeting phase where your hand was warm

And your words with me weren’t as cold

You were never really the kind to open up

You keep your cards close to your heart

Until it’s your last turn to reveal them

I was in love with the revealing version of you

I realized a lot late that I didn’t really want you

I wanted the idea of you that I had made

The faux dream who coddles my insecurities

And who would stake with me his worlds

You were never really the one to engage words

Your actions wherein I were to find hints

Until I have you desperate or drunk

I was wanted the drunken idea of you
