Real People

It's July the 21st.

The city refuses to sleep;

though dark, its music still plays.

It's July the 22nd.

I am woken by the city's music —

loud is the urban flow.

It's winter,

but the morning's breath has a warmth to it.

There is gentleness to the wind.

The sun is sprinkling light

and it glitters like gold.

I am resonating sweet frequency.

There is song to my step.

I am almost skipping —

if Nux could see me now.

Something inside me is a light.

I am falling for her again.

I think to that night

I first called her mine.

She put her lips on mine

and we kissed like real people do.

I was digging

and I found my diamond in the dust.

Her shine gave her away.

There she was,

giggle-filled with rosy cheeks.

Rukwangali rolled off her tongue

like fragrance from an iris.

There is this sparkle to her eye

that looks like the birth of a thousand suns.

Those eyes hold a wonder,

an insatiable curiosity,

and I own a little of it.

She is my gravity,

the centre to which I am drawn.

I am falling for her once more.

This woman is angel-made.

This cannot be evolution.

Last night she was gardened

in a soft shade of pink,

and looked at me

how I think the ocean looks at the sky.

I melt to her voice;

it touches the ear and turns it gold.

I love her.

I fail to say it,

but her eye tells me she already knows.

I love her straightforwardly,

without a bend or a curve.

I think to myself: damn, she's beautiful —

and she looks at me

as though she knows what I am thinking.

I love her with words not yet known to man.

In my mind are pictures of her smiling —

gentle reminders

that I would cross the universe for her.

I love her like real people do.

My breath calls to her,

but you would have to be her to hear it.

I love her like Freddy loves Mee Tuli.
