Rat Race

By Edvelyn Lee

In this rat race, imprisoned us the peace makes

In times of distress, we suppressed the deep mess

In hopes of the old rays as we slowly lost our ways

In this rat race, we tried to anchor the peace made

The mind floats old times to light, the heart follows suit in feeling light

The pine in connecting to past, the promise we told in full trust

The grind that grayed us so fast, all in pray of freedom from tasks

The day we find ourselves again, we delved our child self’s terrain

Whimsical pounces into our arms of “miss us?”

Giggles and grins paired with tickles and pink

“Duhh” you slurred with your gleaming vigour just like the largest beaming star

Cheers and tears tucked the child us free from scars

We felt our peace and engrained the crescent

as the friendship fortified, our lambent present

We finally caught up but we unknowingly grew up

in this rat race, with us, I am geared up
