Pyrrhic Victory

Past haunts you like a yowling echo Hovering over your head at nights too long You can escape from where you spilled blood In the aftermath, you face what you did wrong.

No prison can lock you up forever, Yet we're all prisoners of our own passion Thousands die under the wheels of war Killing for love never seeks an absolution. Beyond the light, disobeying clockwork A loose end in time doesn't let you breathe Fate scoffing at your pyrrhic victory Justice unserved leaves your soul to seethe.
