PURPLE

Step, step, step; no one heard,
Puff, puff, puff, breathing hard.
Man dwelling out of social herd,
Standing well above the land.
He conquered every hill
That the cold-hearted breeze can chill.
As an emblem of his will,
He planted a flag that never stood still.
He won the land he sought,
Like no one else in his thought.
He looked at the purple flag that stood erect,
Tipped his hat off to it.
While the purple flag swayed as hard as his might…
Back at home,
Snow veiled her view,
Tears blurred her hope,
Time withered her memory of the man who went to roam.
In the loneliness snow
And memory-less cold,
He never left his purple shirt to keep her aware and
warm.
