Psychosomatic
Original Submission by Amira Dayana
It's a psychosomatic symptom of infatuation
You come to life in the doubling of my heartbeat
when I know you are far away but wish you are near
When my heart sinks too far down all I get are stomachaches
that dare me to purge you out
but you are an illness that I'd die without
When I caught it on that day in August I thought it was more of a cure
My cheeks were flushed and my heart was warm
But it was more of a fantasy fever dream
The diagnosis hit on a Thursday in June
while the prognosis was death in October
When the fall came it was infinite
Fallen for your charms straight into a sickbed I never left for weeks
and selfishly, I tried to beg you to fix me
but I lived and I still think about it now
Still get tremors on those nights and mornings when you are all I can think about
The post-infection is almost as if you never left at all
And I always think that second encounters will never be as deadly as the first
but I'll never know now
Cause you'll see me across the room and we'll never touch once
Our eyes won't meet and we won't dance til the night is done
We push each other away,
keep each other's hearts safe,
never give them back so without you I can't love
And it's beautiful to know you affect me so
Every part of me knows, flesh and blood
I'll only want to breathe as long as I breathe you in,
only want to bleed as much as it takes to forgive,
as long as it's with you that I get to live
