By Suvreenda Sood
From unconditioned innocence and naivety
She smiled. Unaware in brimming curiosity
Of the desolate world that surrounded her
And its noxious prays and ferocity.
Her smile was contagious for her father laughed
Oblivious, though only for a second,
Of the events hapless, and the future marred,
Shadowed by the memory of blissful days of iridescence.
Years passed and the smile hushed
Worn from prejudices and a yearning lust
Of a bygone peace and halcyon
That perhaps, to her, never belonged.
Yet now her father smiled
In wisdom borne from plight
A smile that nursed his memory
Which silenced his redundant pride.
