Prisoner of Masculanity

By Nitesh Shelar

In times of despair you have no options because you are a man. You may

be in your late teens but gobble up the courage , dare you let that tear out.

When its the last day of your school and you know you won’t see your

friend again who did your proxy. That friend who would let you eat his tiffin

or who would be your accomplice. Baby boy or a man , masculinity is like

the grass on the other side, appears greener but it stands on the

quicksand . A quicksand that eats up emotions- love, tenderness,

vulnerability, scratched from the dictionaries !

The common man when does the uncommon only then is his spirit revered

but those who fail shall fall in pits of agony . It's like a black hole. You don’t

know how far you fall neither does anyone else, because no one bothers

to look . You’re as insignificant as a white crayon on a white cardboard.

May be every cloud does not have a silver lining .

Our sister's depart with their soulmates . Our mother's have our dad's

shoulder . We ourselves are shoulder to our girl best friends , but when you

sit down with a thought of future and you see the eternal atrocities reigning

your life , what can you do ?

NOTHING !

Share and you’ll be a joke, suicide and you're a quitter !

Many fumble & many fall but who counts, heavens or hells , both not

promised. Fate in our hands feels like God's joke . You are a writer so you

pour out things. You send these to the people whom you love !

Too big to read, too shady to understand and in emojis they reply !

But then again someone demands our insecurities. Maybe love maybe not .

We take the chance and too soon the dream shatters. Now you a player.

Now you going in rounds, but no ones gonna talk who made you so . Alas!

they talk of integrity. Words from someone who traded your love for

emotional and materialistic needs . You smile and you laugh !

You are a big man now . You go home when everyone is asleep . You can’t

tell your mom- “I love you”. You can’t hug your dad or brother and tell them

you a man because for them you’re not one ! When they are infront of you,

you a child in a grown man's body . Damn! what a prison . But your

conscience is fragile and late at night you are afraid to fall asleep alone,

But chin up brother because you a man and men are not afraid, are not

disappointed, are not depressed . They are rough, they are ruthless, they

are feared.

Oh what a plight - Prisoners of masculinity!
