Power and Heart

I have put my heart and soul on the table

You now have all the power to break or build me

Do you expect more?

From me, do you expect that I sacrifice dignity?

For a moment of your affections?

I believe I am unwanted, what else could I

You have power and do not wield it

Like a king tired of his patronage

Even then, abdicate clearly

Name a successor and I can be content

But I am stuck, in a limbo

With a king who wishes to be granted laurels with no deeds

Then again what if I am unworthy?

A knight tied by oath but not able to catch the kings favor

Unable to be named highly, for his lowliness

I only wish clarity

The condescension of such a charity

Would leave me contented

Completely

Guineneve draws us into her quandary with allusions to kings and knightly honor. Beautiful imagery.

The poet here describing the tenuous frailty of laying yourself bare that love requires is at once beautiful and terrifying .
