PRESENT

“Is he still breathing?”Matt asked as he stared at Luke, vigorously shovelling Liam who lay still on his hands. Not a word could be heard by any soul. The obmutescence was so enchanting, that the faint voice of zephyr blowing through the tall pine, oak and teak trees like fish slithering through the freshwaters could be heard out loud, as it drummed across the ear. Liam’s face started turning from a jejune yellow to a morbid white.

Amongst the dead routine of the forest, there rose silent tears which rolled down from Luke’s face like small beads, so hog that they were ready to evaporate as soon as they kissed the earth. Luke turned to Matt after wiping his tears and growled forcefully, “What did you do!!?”

The next thing that Luke heard was only Matt’s malicious laugh…

EARLIER THAT DAY:

Town called them the three musketeers, so did they, except having a unique name for the gang, ‘Fake dunkers’. The mockery didn't end there; but Matt, Luke and Liam called those ones the cowards. They sat there in the basement with weird hoodies on. It was pitch black except just the LCD light bulb hung in the middle, releasing yellow light which didn’t do any good.

“Let’s start,” Luke said with an intrepid face and those almond shaped eyes with tints of walnut haze amidst the pupils. His misty blonde hair seemed like it had lost its colour under the darkness. Matt, the only dark skinned boy, with hard hair the shade of sour cream, was the first one to place his hands on the ouija board, while blabbering out loud, “I do not believe in this crap. It’s just to lure you weaklings out there into believing what’s not there!.”

Liam gave a dead look to both of them, as they started the game. “Is anyone there?” he asked to the cold still air in the basement. Dumbstruck, the planchette moved to YES. Couple more questions until all the three knew that it was nothing more than a sneaky trick one of them was playing. Not ending the game of talking to spirits correctly all three of them decided on a stroll to the forest ahead of the town.

Matt walked weirdly, unusually looking everywhere with a weird expression and cheesy smile on his face. “What’s up, Matt?” Luke asked with a demanding voice. No response. Ignoring him, all three jogged to woods, to the secret house they’d built. The woods held an aura which gave the boys a feeling of asphyxiation. A billion verdant wands of pine waved in arboreal air, creating the heavenly feeling which was shattered as they saw the crevice folded into the weak evening light and mist that bore their house.

“Try and find some fresh fruits. I’ll set up the house till then,” Luke said as he sped up to their house. Still in the dense part, from the rich brown earthen hues of the forest grounded to the sweetness of the mild grey sky, it was getting weird between Liam and Matt who didn’t converse or coordinate. “Matt, Liam, where are you guys?!!” Luke screeched while running through the dense foliage. Suddenly coming to a stop, Luke couldn't believe his eyes as he saw both of them. Liam laid dead still on the cold moist grass which had turned black and red around him. Matt smiled as he held the sharp tree branch in his hand that was ridiculed with blood. His hand had turned kohl black. Matt’s eyes were shone white in the grey of the surroundings. Matt collapsed promptly and then stood up again with normal eyes, “ What happened?! Oh my gosh!! Why is Liam bleeding!?.”

BACK TO PRESENT:

A black line crossed Liam's neck. His face was completely white. “No. No. Noooo….!” Luke whispered as he held Liam’s dead body in his hands. “Go away Matt. Just go,” Luke screamed, his voice echoing all across. Matt switched up again into that mystic smile and full white eyes.

He said, “Not too soon dear Luke. It's your turn now.” Matt said. He charged.
