Polly the greedy bee

Early in the morning when the wind whispered to the trees, the bees woke up and felt hungry. There were five best friends named Polly, June, May, Lilly and Jency. Polly was a very greedy bee. When you looked at Polly, she seemed like a very honest bee. But inside, she was greedy like a hungry bear. But, her friends were honest and kind.

The whole group of bees saw some colorful big flowers. So, they hurriedly went to drink nectar from the flowers. Polly got one flower filled with nectar, but her other friends only got a little bit of nectar. After Polly drank hers quickly, her friends had a little more left. Polly went to take their nectar too. Then they felt upset. “Oh! She took our nectar also.” They went and told the queen bee. The queen bee said, “Ahh, Polly, why are you stealing others’ nectar? Don’t be so greedy.” “Yes, Queen Bee,” Polly said respectfully.

The next day the queen bee said, “We have to fly a long way to collect nectar from a specific set of flowers.” The whole group flew hard on a long journey. Polly didn’t care for the queen bee’s advice. Once again she stole her friends’ nectar and other ingredients. The queen bee had a great plan. First, the queen bee shared all the things gathered by Polly among her friends equally. Then she said, “Polly has to fly again and collect nectar from those flowers.”

Polly flew again hard and got exhausted. But there was no more nectar from the specific flowers. She collected a little bit of nectar from ordinary flowers and there were only leaves as other ingredients. She flew back with an upset mind. When she got back to the hive, the queen bee announced that there is a honey-making competition tomorrow. You have to make honey with your ingredients, and the judge is Mr. Butterfly. He is selecting the sweetest ones. They started to make honey. But Polly only had two ingredients while others had a lot.

Then it was the next day. Mr. Butterfly started to try one by one. He was fair and honest. Finally, it was Polly’s turn. When Mr. Butterfly tried hers, Polly was scared and "Oh ," Mr. Butterfly shook his head. It was time to give the awards. Everyone won a trophy except Polly. She was very upset and her eyes filled with tears. “Why didn’t you win a trophy, Polly?” asked May. “Ahh, I don’t know. Get away.” Then the queen bee asked, “Oh, Polly, why didn’t you win a trophy?” Polly said, “I don’t know, Queen.” The queen bee said, “Ahh, Polly, that’s why I said don’t be greedy. If you had listened to me, you would have had a trophy too.” Polly sat alone and thought about what happened. She realized that being greedy isn’t good and we should be grateful for what we have.

Don’t be greedy like Polly. Be happy with what you have. Because greedy bees go hungry.
