Poetry is Gay

(An Poorly Written Poem Found in my Secondary School Notebook)

To my gay brothers, I’m sorry,

For what I’m about to say.

To my lesbian sisters I’m sorry,

Please hear me out today.

Really, I’m not homophobic

I just have a bone to pick,

Poetry is damn gay

And it’s so not slay.

I love my homo friends

But poetry has to end;

Comparing you all to poetry,

Is an insult to the LGBT.

Bro, I don’t mean to be rude

You can marry a dude.

I will support your wedding

Unless there’s poetry sharing.

I remember to this date

Of having to annotate

That the red door has symbolism

Of covert communism.

We had Lit remedial until four

Just talking about a door.

I rather be shot with a spear

Than have to study Shakespeare.

I will turn into a psychopath,

If I have to read more Sylvia Plath.

So please don’t come me,

I’m just sick of “thou” and “thee”.

To my gay friends continue to slay,

But just remember that:

Poetry is damn gay.
